INVESTOR SUMMARY
I am seeking investments to pilot the production of daffodil bulbs and flowers for Galantamine extraction and coordinate a cooperative of similar growers known as San Diego Flower Farms.
ABOUT ME
I am a flower farmer in Warner Springs, California, a small unincorporated area of San Diego County. I grew up on a farm outside Los Angeles, owned and operated by my single mother. We raised both crops and livestock, as well as earned income through local farmers markets. I left the farm to attend the University of California, San Diego and developed a successful career as a website developer and marketing consultant. With a desire to get back to my roots, I began searching for my own property and business opportunities that would support small farms.
SAN DIEGO FLOWER FARMS
Flower farming has a long history in San Diego County, including the Flower Fields of Carlsbad, backcountry lavender farms, as well as wildflower and daffodil festivals. Reaching out to growers at festivals, farmers markets, and local networks I discovered a community eager to collaborate with others to create more diversified, sustainable income streams. I currently have growers interested in putting land into production for Galantamine extraction. I have my own acres prepared for this pilot and a promise of another 20 from surrounding growers.
WARNER SPRINGS, CA
Warner Springs is located at the eastern edge of San Jose Valley at 3,100 feet elevation. Chihuahua Valley where my property is located is at 4,400 feet. The area is a broad, fertile, high desert plain surrounded by 6,000 ft. peaks, including Palomar, Cuyamaca, and Hot Springs Mountain. The Anza-Borrego Desert lies just below the southern edge. Warner Springs is a unique growing region, having the long sunny season typical of the Southern California Mediterranean climate combined with cool nights and a snowy winter because of its high desert altitude. The natural spring water as well as mountain run off makes dry land farming possible here. It is an ideal environment for hardy narcissus varieties.
CONCLUSION
Warner Springs has a unique geography and climate, and a responsive farm community with historic ties to flower production that make it an ideal environment for this endeavor. Together San Diego Flower Farms can work to address the growing need for Alzheimer's treatments and provide a sustainable living for small farmers.
